There is little information about biography of artist. In 1914–1918 Sergey Rastorguev studied at Moscow School of painting, sculpture and architecture (MUZhVZ). He was engaged in book design and easel graphic art. He worked as an illustrator in the newspaper Gudok (“Whistle”) in 1922–1930, in the publishing house Molodaya Gvardia in 1930s.
Rastorguev was a member and participant of exhibitions of the group Trinadtsat (“Thirteen”) in 1929–1930, the Association of Graphic Artists under the House of Press in 1927–1928 (the 2nd and 3rd exhibitions of graphic art). Rastorguev took part in the 5th Exhibition of painting and graphic art of modern Russian artists in Feodosia (1929), the 2nd Traveling art exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Sverdlovsk, Perm, Ufa, Samara, Saratov and Penza (1930), the exhibitions of Soviet Art in London, Berlin, Stockholm (all — 1930), in Zurich (1931), in Johannesburg (1931, 1933) and others.
