Tyagunov Vladimir Petrovich
Painter, graphic artist Vladimir Tyagunov studied at the Higher State Artistic and Technical Workshops (VKhUTEMAS) — the Higher Art Technical Institute (VKhUTEIN) in Moscow (1925–1930) under the guidance of A. A. Osmerkin, R. R. Falk, and D. P. Shterenberg. In 1929 Tyagunov painted the graduate painting The first all-union pioneer gathering in Moscow, which was bought by the State Tretyakov Gallery from the Exhibition of the works of the VKhUTEIN’s graduates. Since 1930 Tyagunov was a member of the Society of Easel Artists (OST). He was one of the initiators of the change of Society’s leadership: on the 31st of January in 1931 at the extraordinary meeting of the OST, he proposed to vote for a new leadership (Y. I. Pimenov, P. V. Williams, V. P. Tyagunov, S. A. Luchishkin), but the votes were divided into 14 for and 19 against the new leadership. After the meeting Tyagunov together with like-minded artists left the Society of Easel Artists and became one of the founders of the group Izobrigada (group of art workers). He was elected a chairman of the group. In early 1930s Tyagunov together with I. V. Ivanovsky, M. L. Gurevich, and A. I. Igumnov founded the art group TIGI (Tyagunov-Ivanovsky-Gurevich-Igumnov). The group made a trip to the Chiatura manganese mines in Georgia, then to the Kuzbass (Kuznetsk Basin). In 1932 Tyagunov participated in the Kara expedition. He exposed works from the trips at the Exhibition of works of artists, sent on a mission to the regions of the industrial building and collective farms (Moscow, 1931). Tyagunov also took part in the exhibitions Graphics and book art in the USSR (Amsterdam, 1929), the exhibition of works on revolutionary and Soviet themes (Moscow, 1930), and the Anti-imperialistic Exhibition dedicated to the International Red Day (Moscow, 1931). Since 1932 Vladimir Tyagunov was a member of Moscow Regional Union of Soviet Artists (MOSSKh); in 1949 — executive secretary of the board of the MOSSKh. Since 1966 Tyagunov was a chief artist of Noginsk studio at Moscow Regional Department of the Art Foundation. Works by Vladimir Tyagunov are in many museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery.
