Catalogue Raisonné of R. R. Falk’s Painting


Within the 21st Antique Salon (October, 2006), the gallery Elysium represented the catalogue raisonné of paintings by Robert Rafailovich Falk in the Central House of Artist. Robert Falk was a significant artist, but he obtained the recognition only many years later after his death. His artworks exemplified heavy way to the merited recognition.


The catalogue includes chronology of Falk’s life (by widow of the artist A. V. Shchekin-Krotova), research monograph of his artworks (by academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences D. V. Sarabyanov) and album with color illustrations of artworks with annotations (composed by senior staff scientist of the State Tretyakov Gallery Y. V. Didenko). The catalogue was published with assistance of the Publishing House ComputerPress and RA.


Paintings by Robert Falk are chronologized in the catalogue raisonné. There are 1210 illustrations. Each reproduction concerns to a certain period of life of the artist. Early works of Falk (1903–1906) from the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art (Moscow) and works of Paris period from private collections abroad were published for the first time. Widow of the artist A. V. Shchekin-Krotova gave commentaries to a lot of reproductions of Falk’s paintings.


The greater part of paintings was kept in the family of the artist. Falk’s works were dated and attributed by the experts on artworks of Falk D. V. Sarabyanov and A. V. Shchekin-Krotova in 1960s–1970s. The authors of the catalogue gathered material about location of Falk’s works in museum and private collections, participation in different exhibitions.


There is a list of exhibitions with Robert Falk’s participation, index of works by genres (small pictures) in order to draw analogies, and detailed bibliography of the artist in the additional part of the catalogue.


The catalogue raisonné of Robert Falk’s painting is the first full collection of Falk’s works in Russia.
